Training efficacy for trail runners

Every session hits its target.
The terrain makes sure of it.

Your training plan prescribes a physiological stimulus. Segmnt selects the terrain that actually delivers it. No more sessions that feel right but miss their target.

The invisible problem

Your sessions feel right. But the adaptation didn't happen.

Your plan says "threshold climb 4×8min." You run your usual loop at 6% gradient. You suffer, you sweat, you check the box.

But 6% isn't steep enough for threshold climbing — physiologically, you did tempo, not threshold. The session is done but the adaptation didn't happen.

You'll never know until race day. When the climbs hit 15% and your body doesn't have the response it should.

This is invisible inefficiency. Sessions that feel right but miss their physiological target because the terrain didn't match the intent. Segmnt makes sure every session actually produces the adaptation it's supposed to.

What Segmnt actually does

Every session explains why this terrain.

Not just where to run — why this trail delivers this workout.

Threshold climb 4×8min

Sentier des Crêtes, Salève

12-15% grade680m D+8.2km
Intensity88%

Section at 12-15% grade: steep enough to reach threshold zone on the climb without forcing pace. Descent on limestone: bonus eccentric quad work to prepare race-day descent.

Salève intégral

1400m D+28km4h target
Endurance72%

Profile reproduces Stage 1 of the race: long initial climb (1400m like the Cheiron), rolling technical plateau, sustained 800m descent. The order is deliberate: test the ability to descend well on tired legs.

RecoveryTerrain match

Boucle Veyrier-Bossey

Recovery30%

Gentle profile, 280m D+ over 10km. Chosen because tomorrow is a high-load cross-training session: today's muscular load is kept low for recovery.

How it works

From target race to guaranteed training efficacy.

1

Pick your race

Paste the race URL, search the catalogue, or enter the stages manually. The flow still works when organizers have not published a GPX.

2

Sync your history

Connect Strava or Garmin. We read your training history to calibrate intensity zones, vertical speed curve, and current fitness.

3

Monday morning. Go run.

Every session has a target. Every trail guarantees that target is hit. Tap to export to your watch. Go run.

Closed-loop coaching

Observation. Diagnosis. Terrain adjustment.

After every run, Segmnt reads your data and coaches you. Not data for data's sake — a complete coaching loop that adjusts the next session's terrain.

Session debrief — Wednesday long run
1

You lost 18s/km on descent between km 14-17 compared to your usual gradient-adjusted pace.

2

Likely quad fatigue from the steep early climb. The Semnoz north face loaded your quads before you had rhythm.

3

Next week's long run uses the east face of La Forclaz: same total D+, but the first 800m are spread over 6km instead of 3. The goal: build eccentric resistance progressively before retesting the steep profile in 3 weeks.

The missing link

Plan generates. Terrain delivers. Debrief verifies.

Coaching apps generate plans without knowing your trails. Trail apps map terrain without understanding your training. Segmnt does both in the same loop.

Not AllTrails

No popularity ranking. No reviews. We don't show you trails other people liked — we assign the trail your workout needs.

Not Strava

We interpret your data, not dump it. No 47-metric dashboard. Actual coaching insight that tells you what to change and why.

Not Komoot

No manual route planning. No dragging waypoints. You tell us your race goal — we generate the plan and assign every trail.
